The American Southwest
I think the desert was a place that I felt largely inclined to avoid early in my adult life. I had been to major landmarks like the Grand Canyon and Mesa Verde National Parks as a kid, and for one reason or another, never felt drawn to return. I had the opportunity to go to Arizona for six months in 2024. In no uncertain terms I think that time changed the way I looked at landscapes and photography. It is somehow a calm and violent place, with the peace of the near-constant sunshine, and rapid onset of storms during monsoon season; gorgeous sunsets blanketed by the smoke of wildfires. It is a dichotomous place and intensely dramatic, and I hope that these images can help exemplify that.
